Thomas Ulen

Thomas Shahan Ulen (born April 11, 1946 ) is an American lawyer and economist .

Career, research and teaching

Ulen first studied at Dartmouth College , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . He then moved to St Catharine's College in Oxford , where he received a master's degree . He received a Ph.D. from Stanford University. in economics. Ulen is a professor at the University of Illinois and is the director of the Illinois Program in Law and Economics .

Research and teaching in Ulen focus on various aspects in the area between economic analysis and civil law. His spectrum ranges from general questions to legal and economic thinking to special questions of public law. Together with Robert Cooter , he wrote the book Law and Economics , which has become a standard work in America and has been translated into various languages. In his essay A Nobel Prize in Legal Science , published in 2002, Ulen formulated - based on a fictitious Nobel Prize in law as a guideline - a definition of the current state of education and research in law.
