Thomas Ustick Walter (born September 4, 1804 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † October 30, 1887 ) was an American architect .

Walter constructed neo-classical buildings in Washington, DC From 1851 to 1865 he was the architect of the Capitol . He was the founder of the American Institute of Architects .
