Thomas Weber (engineer)

Thomas Weber (born May 26, 1954 in Scharnhausen near Stuttgart ) is a German engineer and former member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG . From 2004 to 2016 he was responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

Life

After completing technical training at what was then Daimler-Benz AG, Weber studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart . He completed his studies as a graduate engineer in 1980 and then worked as a research assistant at the university and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation . In 1987 he obtained his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart and joined what was then Daimler-Benz AG in the same year. On January 1, 2003, he became a member of the Group's Management Board. The University of Stuttgart appointed Weber honorary professor in 2010 . Weber has been chairman of the board of trustees of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation since July 2014.

On January 1, 2017, Thomas Weber's contract with Daimler AG was not renewed at his own request and he resigned from the Board of Management. His position was taken over by the Swedish manager Ola Källenius , who had been responsible for sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars as a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since January 1, 2015.

Weber is a member of the National Platform for Electric Mobility and is committed to the development of electric cars.
