Thomas Wolff (born November 19, 1948 in Hagen / Westphalia) is a German chemist .

Life

After his youth in Hagen, he studied chemistry at the University of Göttingen from 1967 to 1972 and graduated with a diploma. Also in Göttingen, he received his doctorate in 1975 with a thesis on mechanistic photochemistry , supervised by Albert Weller and Karl-Heinz Grellmann . In the following years he was assistant to Günther von Bünau at the University of Siegen . In 1983 he completed his habilitation on the subject of photochemistry in microheterogeneous surfactant solutions and then worked first as a lecturer and in 1986 as a professor of physical chemistry at the University of Siegen. During this time he was visiting professor at the University of Houston , Houston , Texas , USA in 1988 . In 1993 he was appointed professor for interface and colloid chemistry at the TU Dresden and retired on October 1, 2015.

From 1997 to 2003 he was the spokesman for the DFG graduate program Structure-Property-Relationships in Heterocycles and from 2006 he is chairman of the Dresden branch of the Society of German Chemists (GDCh). He has also been National Representative of the European Photochemistry Association (EPA) since 2000 and co-editor of Advances in Photochemistry since 2001 .

Wolff is a member of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry (DBG), Colloid Society , Society of German Chemists, European Photochemistry Association and the European Colloid and Interface Society.

His main research interests are the selectivity of photoreactions in colloidal systems and the photochemical control of flow and phase behavior in surfactant and polymer systems.
