Thomas Ziehe

Thomas Ziehe (born June 28, 1947 in Hanover ) is a German educational scientist .

Life

After graduating from the Tellkampf School in 1966, Ziehe studied social sciences, history and psychology, received his doctorate in 1974 at the then Technical University of Hanover under Michael Vester , taught from 1988 to 1993 as a professor of education at the University of Frankfurt am Main and was from 1993 until his retirement 2015 Professor of Education at the University of Hanover (now: Leibniz University of Hanover ). From 1997 to 1999 he was Dean of the Faculty of Education there. In 1972 he co-founded the Glocksee School in Hanover .

His main area of ​​work is youth research in cultural studies . He researches in particular on the following topics: The youth situation in a time comparison from the 1950s to today; Changes in mentality of young people; Changes in lifestyles and youth cultures; Significance of popular culture ; cultural modernization processes and everyday life; changed pupil and teacher roles, school and learning culture.

Many of his writings have been translated into Danish and Swedish.
