Thomas de Ros, 4th Baron de Ros (born January 13, 1336 or 1337 in Stoke Albany , † June 8, 1384 in Uffington ) was an English nobleman and politician during the reign of the kings from the House of Plantagenet .

origin

Thomas de Ros came from the Anglo-Norman family de Ros , which can be traced back to England in the 12th century. He was a younger son of 2nd Baron William de Ros and his wife Margery de Badlesmere. His father died in 1343, and after the childless death of his older brother William in 1352 he became the heir to his father's estates.

Life

While still a minor, Thomas de Ros took part in King Edward III's campaign in 1355 during the Hundred Years War . in Normandy and in the campaign of 1356 in France. On May 31, 1358 de Ros was declared of legal age, which transferred the family possessions to him. From 1358 de Ros belonged to the royal council, where he served as an advisor to Ireland in 1361 and 1362. From 1359 to 1360 he again took part in a campaign in France. 1362 he took the first time as Baron de Ros on Parliament part. Marriage and offspring

Thomas de Ros had married around 1358 Beatrice († 1415), the widow of Maurice FitzGerald, 2nd Earl of Desmond and a daughter of Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford and Margaret Audley, Baroness Audley. He had several children with her, including:

Thomas de Ros was buried in Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire . His heir became his son John, after his childless death in 1393, Thomas' younger son William inherited the property and the title of the family. His widow Beatrice married Sir Richard Burley for the third time .
