The Thomas Chapel is located at the southern end of the Rheinauenpark next to the listed American settlement in Bonn-Plittersdorf . It stands slightly recessed in the area by a paved courtyard, around which the chapel and the adjoining community center form a three-wing, single-storey brick complex with gently sloping pitched roofs. A little off the beaten track is the house for a community worker, which is surrounded by a meadow.

The Thomas Chapel, like the Christ and Paul Church, belongs to the Thomas parish and is the smallest of the three churches. It was built in 1966 according to a design by the architect Heinrich Otto Vogel and put into service that same year.

The chapel is a simple hall with an open bell tower, the bell of which is rung by hand. Black natural stone slate was used for the floor of the chapel, the walls are clad in brick, and the walls and the pointed roof ceiling are clad in wood. The altar area is illuminated by a large window with stained glass.

The Julius Axenfeld Foundation runs a kindergarten for around 45 children in the community center. It is named after the apostle Thomas .
