Thongsing Thammavong ( Laotian ທອງ ສິງ ທຳ ມະ ວົງ , also Thonsing Thammavong or Thammavon ; born April 12, 1944 in the province of Houaphan ) is a leading Laotian politician and since December 2010 the country's prime minister . He is a member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LRVP) - the Unity Party of Laos.

Life

According to official information, he joined the revolutionary Pathet Lao / Laotian People's Party in 1959 . From 1963 to 1979 Thammavong worked as a teacher and in various administrative positions in his home province of Houaphan before moving to the Ministry of Education in Vientiane . From 1982 to 1988 he was President of the Press, Newspaper and Radio Committee and Deputy Director of the joint propaganda and training area of ​​the Party Central Committee and Ministry of Culture. He completed training in human resources with a certificate.

In 1989 he became President of the Supreme People's Assembly , which was replaced by the National Assembly in 1991 as a result of a constitutional amendment . Thammavong also became a member of the LRVP's Politburo . From 2002 to 2006, in addition to his membership in the Politburo, he was also the secretary of the Vientian Party Committee and thus mayor of Vientiane.

Since the beginning of the 6th legislative period in 2006, Thongsing Thammavong has been a member of the National Assembly for constituency 6 ( Luang Prabang Province ). He again held the post of President of Parliament and chaired the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

After Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh's surprising resignation on December 23, 2010, Thammavong was appointed as his successor. Pany Yathotou took over the office of President of Parliament .

Thammavong lives in Vientiane, Xaysetha District .
