The Thornton River is a 45 km long left tributary of the Hazel River in the US state of Virginia . It rises at Thornton Gap in Shenandoah National Park and a little later takes up the North Fork Thornton River near Sperryville . It flows east through Rappahannock County , takes on the Rush River and finally flows into the Hazel River.
