Location of the Thorsberg barracks in Schleswig-Holstein

The Thorsberg barracks was a military facility in Süderbrarup on Schleswiger Strasse. It was built in 1969/70 and in 1970 it was used by the Bundeswehr units.

history

Near the site of the later barracks is the Thorsberger Moor , where early weapons and equipment were discovered between 1858 and 1861 by the Flensburg teacher Helvig Conrad Engelhardt .

armed forces

The barracks complex was put into operation on June 9, 1970 and housed the 1st and 4th batteries of the anti-aircraft missile battalion 39 until 2002. The staff of the unit, 2nd, 3rd and the supply battery were in Flensburg until 1972 and then in Eckernförde. From the barracks two missile positions were occupied, which were in Maasholm and Tolk . They were equipped with the HAWK weapon system .

In addition, the material of a cadre hunter battalion and a field replacement battalion was housed in the barracks.

Use after relinquishment

After the Bundeswehr withdrew from the barracks, a team building center was set up on the site , which was expanded in 2009. All buildings except the guard (short-term snack bar) continue to be used in a partially changed form, mainly by the hardware store and its central administration.
