The Thumb Promontory (English for thumb promontory ) is a striking mountain ridge in the west Antarctic Marie-Byrd-Land . In the Ohio Range of the Horlick Mountains , it extends from the north side of Lackey Ridge .
The mountain ridge was initially given its descriptive name unofficially by a team that explored the Ohio Range between 1979 and 1980 as part of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program . The formal naming proposal was made by New Zealand geologist and paleontologist Margaret Ann Bradshaw, who worked in the area between 1983 and 1984 as part of the same research program.
