Thumbelina is a song from the soundtrack of the film Hans Christian Andersen and the dancer from 1952. The song was composed and written by Frank Loesser . It is sung in the film by Danny Kaye . Kaye directs his words to Thumbelina , translated as "Thumbelina": Even if you are no bigger than my thumb, sweet Thumbelina, do not be sad, it makes no difference whether you are very small or big when your heart is filled with love ... Thumbelina was the B-side of the very successful song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus .

From February 1952, Danny Kaye was number 3 in the American album charts for 17 weeks with his album "Hans Christian Andersen", on which the song was included. For his musical adaptation, Frank Loesser used the literary work of the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, best known for his fairy tales . Thumbelina , in the Danish original Tommelise , is an art fairy tale by Andersen that was first published in 1835.

Thumbelina was covered by Dean Martin in 1953 . The singer also performed the song in April 1953 on an episode of the "Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis Radio Show".

Oscar nomination

Frank Loesser was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Song" in 1953 with the song , but could not prevail against Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington and their song High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me) from the Western Twelve Noon .
