Tianjin Seagull Watch Group Co. Ltd. ( Chinese 天津 中 鸥 表 业 集团 有限公司 ) is a Chinese company and the world's largest manufacturer of mechanical movements with a production volume of 3.7 million calibers (2010) as well as a major precision mechanics company in China.
history
The company was founded in 1955 as Tianjin Watch Factory and originally specialized in repairing mechanical watch movements. In addition, it produced small series watches that were sold under the brand names WuXing (1955–1958) and later WuYi (1958–1966). The breakthrough came in 1961 with the order from the Chinese Air Force to build a chronograph . At the beginning, however, the pilot's watches had to be imported from Switzerland and the Soviet Union. With the production of the Chinese Air Force 304, pilot's watches were produced in China for the first time. From 1966 the clocks were sold under the name Dong Feng (east wind).
In 1974 the brand name for the watches from our own production was changed to Sea-Gull and export activities were started. However, success did not materialize until after the quartz crisis , when the demand for mechanical movements began to rise again in the late 1980s. The production of watch movements subsequently developed into the company's most important sales pillar with a global market share of around 25%. In addition, the entire spectrum from wristwatches to tower clocks is still manufactured.
In 2010, we moved into a new administration building and a new production site at Tianjin Airport .
Products
The watch manufacturer produces all components of their watches with the exception of the raw materials themselves. In 2006, the first of which was double tourbillon , consisting of two 'different flying tourbillon introduced. The manufacture's specialties also include complications such as a perpetual calendar or caliber with a minute repeater .
In 2011, among other things, an automatic caliber with a microrotor, an orbital tourbillon and an automatic movement only 2.5 mm thick were presented.
On the occasion of the annual Baselworld watch fair , Tianjin Seagull was repeatedly accused of infringing copyrights and trademarks. Lawsuits in this regard by competing watch manufacturers have so far always proven to be unsubstantiated and have been rejected.
