Tiberius Iulius Lupus
Tiberius Iulius Lupus (* in the 1st century; † 73 ) was a Roman knight who was governor of the imperial province of Egypt under Emperor Vespasian at the time of the end of the Jewish War .
After the fall of Masada , a larger militant Jewish sect, so-called sicarians , managed to evacuate to Alexandria . Their continued work against the Roman authorities led to violent unrest among the population. The praefectus aegypti , Tiberius Iulius Lupus, received the order from Vespasian to suppress another uprising by all means.
After completing one of the measures to be taken, the closure of the Jewish temple of Onias in Leontopolis , he died in office in 73. The temple was only destroyed under his successor Paulinus .
