Tibor Szemenyey-Nagy

Tibor Szemenyey-Nagy (born January 31, 1953 in Pápateszér, Hungary ) is a visual artist with a focus on sculpture .

Life

When he was six, Szemenyey-Nagy received his first introduction to art from his grandfather, the post-impressionist Ferenc Szemenyey (1894–1990). In 1960 he began studying classical music (piano) at the Nagykanizsa Conservatory . He emigrated to Luxembourg in 1974, then to West Germany, where he received political asylum in 1975. Initially he lived in Germany, later in the Caribbean, South America and France. He had his studios in Hamburg, Paris and from 1986 to 1989 in Meudon-Clamart ( Hans Arp Atelier, France).

In 1976 he became a member of the BBK (Professional Association of Visual Artists Hamburg). He was one of the founders of the Experimental Institute of the 'Galerie vor Ort' (1975–1979 and 1984). In the 70s and 80s the Hungarian artist lived temporarily in the Rolandseck train station . Twice he retreated to the rainforest between Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil.

In 1990 he returned to Hungary for the first time after sixteen years of exile, where he set up his studios in Nagykanizsa and Balatonberény.

He has lived in Nagykanizsa since 1992. Szemenyey-Nagy has three children.
