Tiefenbach bei Oberstdorf (officially Tiefenbach b.Oberstdorf ) is a district of the Oberstdorf market in the Bavarian district of Oberallgäu .

history

The place was mentioned in 1458 in consecration and indulgence letters from the diocese of Constance for the church of St. Barbara in Tiefenbach. In 1518 Count Hugo von Montfort built a bath house at the sulfur spring in Tiefenbach. In 1775 the common land was divided, which led to the sprawl of the previously closed village. In 1818 the political community of Tiefenbach was established. The Breitachklamm was made accessible in 1905 by the Tiefenbach pastor Johannes Schiebel.

The community was incorporated into the Oberstdorf market on July 1, 1972.

Tiefenbach sulfur bath

Formerly by the Romans and later in the Middle Ages by the Counts of Montfort and Rothenfels , a sulfur spring on the Barweid was used to heal all kinds of ailments. The source of the sulfur bath could be used balneologically until 1960 . The sulfur bath laid the foundation stone for the tourist development of the climatic health resort of Tiefenbach.

tourism

With 240,000 overnight stays a year, the place is a tourist magnet despite its small size. 200 kilometers of hiking trails, 85 kilometers of cross-country trails and the ski lifts on Fellhorn , Nebelhorn and Söllereck in the area around Oberstdorf contribute to this.
