Deep water clumps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The deep-water groups (Abyssocottidae Jordan , 1923) ( size : ἄβυσσος abyssos = bottomless, kottos = head) live endemically in the southern Siberian Lake Baikal at depths of less than 170 meters.

features

The fish reach lengths of 6 to 28 centimeters. They have two dorsal fins . The first, shorter dorsal fin is supported by three to ten spines , the second by 10 to 21 soft rays. The anal fin has 8 to 16 soft rays. The pelvic fins have a fin spine and two to four soft rays. The postcleithra (a bone in the shoulder girdle) is reduced or absent. Deep-water clusters have 30 to 37 eddies .

Systematics

Traditionally, the deep-water groups are viewed as an independent family. Phylogenetically, however, just like the Baikal oilfish (Comephoridae), they are located deep within the family of the bullheads (Cottidae) and even within the genus Cottus . The American ichthyologist Joseph S. Nelson , author of the standard work on fish systematics Fishes of the World , continues to lead the family, although he advocates incorporating them into the Cottidae. In the latest revision of the bony fish, the family rank of deep-water groups is rejected; their genera and species are now counted among the bullheads.
