The Thüle zoo and leisure park near Friesoythe ( Lower Saxony ) is an amusement park in northern Germany . After an expansion, the park has an area of 17 hectares and is located in the recreation area of the Thülsfeld dam .
The offer is aimed primarily at families with children. Around 120 species of animals from all over the world are shown and various rides and play equipment ensure pastime.
Founding history
The foundation in 1965 goes back to Theodor and Elisabeth Grothaus, who started on their farm in Thüle with a pure hobby of deer, deer, pheasants, peacock birds and wild boars. Over time, the number of wild animals on the farm grew steadily, so the family decided to use an agricultural area away from the farm to house the animals. That was the hour of birth of today's animal and leisure park Thüle.
The zoo
Different species of birds, for example in the waders plant for water birds in a free-flight aviary for Scarlet , ibises and a plant for Chilean Flamingo . The Seriemas , which belong to the crane birds and live in South America , and the juvenile cranes that are widespread in the steppes of southern Russia and in some areas of northwest Africa are also shown. The Australian bird world is represented by emus .
Among the predators like servals and the lion , the rare subspecies Transvaal Lion, especially exclusively on the Indonesian island of Sumatra -based Sumatran tigers worth mentioning.
Various species of kangaroo come from Australia , such as the Bennett kangaroo , which is a wallabies .
Primates such as those from Madagascar originating lemurs and in the tropical forests of Central -based and South American marmosets are also found as in their distribution areas in Southeast Asia endangered gibbons .
Other Mammals shown at the zoo, for example by India to the southern Philippines widespread small-clawed otter , the meerkat from South Africa, which in the prairies living in North America prairie dogs , the porcupines or African antelope as the nyala .
The zoo participates in the European conservation breeding program with the keeping and breeding of gibbons, marmosets, Sumatran tigers, pygmy hippos (the keeping was given up in 2018) and the Humboldt penguins, which only occur on the west coast of South America .
