The Tierpark Ströhen is a privately run zoo in the Ströhen district of the Wagenfeld community in the Diepholz district in Lower Saxony .
description
The private zoo, which opened in 1959, is located in a large park, forest and meadow area around an old farm in Lower Saxony that has been family-owned for several hundred years. In the natural animal park with natural open spaces and extensive bodies of water, over 600 mammals and birds from five continents are presented to visitors on an area of 30 hectares. In the stud farm with a total area of 160 hectares additional 200 horses are cared for. The service area includes a restaurant, a café and a kiosk. More than 100,000 visitors come every year.
Livestock
- In the first part of the zoo there are exotic mammals and birds. The animal population with over 50 species includes tigers , pumas , tapirs , monkeys , llamas , kangaroos and alpacas . On birds are u. a. Ostriches , cranes , herons and flamingos kept.
- The forest part is home to native, European animal species. Characteristic for this area are large enclosures for deer and other ungulates , but also many smaller cages and aviaries distributed in the park.
- An internationally known Arabian stud (thoroughbred Arabs ) is attached to the nature park , the largest private stud in Europe, which can also be visited.
Attractions
- Shows with horses are held every year, e.g. B. a Christmas circus, a stud show and International Days of the Arabian Horse.
- On the “petting meadow”, children can experience the various domestic animals (e.g. chickens, goat and sheep lambs) up close. Food is available at the kiosk.
- The playground is equipped with slides, seesaws, children's carousels and a sandpit. This includes a rally course. There children can “climb like a spider”, “dangle like a gibbon ” or “jump like a rabbit”.
