Tilmann Sutter

Tilmann Sutter (born May 3, 1957 in Freiburg ) is a German sociologist . Since 2005 he has been Professor of Sociology with a focus on media sociology at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University .

Live and act

Tilmann Sutter studied sociology, psychology and educational science at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1976 to 1982, where he took his master’s examination in 1982 and his doctorate in sociology in 1989 . Sutter completed his habilitation in sociology at the University of Hamburg in 1998 .

From 1984 to 2004 he held teaching positions at the Institute for Sociology and the Psychological Institute in Freiburg, at the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Essen and at the Institute at the University of Hamburg. From 1989 to 1994 he was a research assistant at the Universities of Freiburg and Hamburg. In 1996 he was a professor at the Psychological Institute of the University of Freiburg. From 1998 to 2005 he was a private lecturer at the Institute for Sociology in Hamburg and at the Psychological Institute in Freiburg. Since 2005 he has been professor of sociology with a focus on media sociology at Bielefeld University.
