The Timmeler Meer is an inland lake near Timmel in East Friesland , Lower Saxony . The lake has access to the Ems and the Ems-Jade Canal .
description
Until the 18th century there were two seas at Timmel, the Timmeler Meer and the Oster Timmeler Meer. Both seas were drained as part of the development of the Spetzerfehnes by creating a channel bed.
Today's Timmeler Meer was artificially created in the 1980s and is used for both tourism and local recreation. It is directly connected to the Boekzeteler Meer nature reserve . The creation of the artificial lake on the one hand and the designation of the Boekzeteler Meer as a nature reserve on the other served to balance the interests of nature conservationists and the tourism industry. The Timmeler Meer is a central component of the tourism concept for the climatic health resort of Timmel. The sea has a bathing beach and a leisure harbor and is lined with holiday homes and campsites.
