Timo Reus (born May 2, 1974 in Lahr / Black Forest ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . As the goalkeeper of SC Freiburg , he played a total of 14 games in the 1st Bundesliga. Most recently he was active at VfR Aalen , where he moved up to the coaching staff as goalkeeping coach after the end of his playing career in 2009.

Career

Reus played in his youth at FV Kuhbach and Offenburger FV . From there he moved to the top division SV Linx in January 1997 , but only stayed in the Ortenau for half a year; after the descent of the Linxer he moved to SC Freiburg . Originally planned as an amateur goalkeeper, he surprisingly became a regular goalkeeper for the Freiburg team in the 2nd Bundesliga and played 23 games there. The SCF rose to the Bundesliga and signed Richard Golz , so Reus had to take a seat on the bench.

Until 2005 he remained the second goalkeeper and during this time he played in 14 Bundesliga games before he moved to the second division club LR Ahlen for the 2005/06 season. There he completed 21 games, but the club rose at the end of the season. After relegation he left Westphalia and was then without a club for a short time before he was signed by the regional division FC St. Pauli in September 2006 . However, Reus did not make it to the goalkeeper there. In 2007 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club, but without being used.

For the 2008/2009 season, Reus moved to VfR Aalen in the newly founded 3rd division , where he also only acted as a substitute goalkeeper. Reus was not used in the season, but the team was relegated to the regional league. Because his player contract became invalid due to relegation, Reus ended his career as an active player. Instead, he became a goalkeeping coach at VfR and became a member of the coaching team under head coach Rainer Scharinger . With the new goalkeeper Daniel Bernhardt , the team achieved a direct return to the third division in the new season with only 19 goals conceded. As a result of the downsizing of the squad under the new coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, Timo Reus returned to the squad for the 2011/12 season in addition to his role as goalkeeper coach as the third goalkeeper. Without him being used as such, the team reached second place in the table at the end of the season and thus promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.
