Daniel Bernhardt (born  August 21, 1985 in Karlsruhe ) is a German football player . The 1.89 m tall goalkeeper has been under contract with VfR Aalen since 2009 .

Career

Bernhardt began his career in the youth of FC Germania Friedrichstal and then played for ASV Durlach . In 2004 he moved up to the adult division of the former league club, with whom he became champions in 2004/05 and rose to the top division. After only one year in the league, the club rose again in 2006 as sixteenth in the table, Bernhardt then went to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , in whose second team he was used. From 2008 he was the third goalkeeper in the TSG Bundesliga squad, but continued to play in the second team.

In 2009 he followed his coach Rainer Scharinger from there to VfR Aalen , who had been relegated from the third division and put together a completely new team except for three players for the new season in the Regionalliga Süd . In the 2009/10 regional league season he played 29 games for VfR. In these games he conceded a total of only 16 goals and thus had a significant share in the championship and the associated direct resurgence of the VfR. Furthermore, he won the WFV Cup with the club in 2010 , the victory of which entitled to participation in the first round of the DFB Cup .

Bernhardt made his professional league debut in the new third division season 2010/11 on July 24, 2010 in the 3-0 away defeat against second division relegated Hansa Rostock . He kept his regular place under Scharinger's successor Ralph Hasenhüttl , so that relegation was achieved at the end of the season. For the new season 2011/12 the team was reinforced again; Daniel Bernhardt also played an outstanding season with her, in which they conceded the fewest goals in the league for a long time, but lost this status again due to a few defeats towards the end of the season. Nevertheless, at the end of the season promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was achieved.

In the following season 2012/13 Bernhardt played the first five second division games, but then lost his regular place to the newly signed Jasmin Fejzić . In the last quarter of the season he prevailed again against Fejzić, so that he came to a total of twelve missions at the end of the season and thus contributed his part to the outstanding season of the Aalen, who finished the Swabians as the best promoted in ninth place in the table. Under the new coach Stefan Ruthenbeck , Bernhardt lost his regular place back to Fejzić in the subsequent 2013/14 season and only played three games at the end of the season. Bernhardt has been deputy team captain of the third division team since the 2015/16 season .
