Tin Alkoum ( Arabic تين الكوم, DMG Tīn al-Kūm ; Further spelling: Tin Elkoum ) is an Algerian border town to Libya in the province of Djanet .
location
The small but technically important oasis is located in the Sahara about 73 km east of the provincial capital Djanet in the wide north-south facing valley of the Oued Issayene between the Tassili-n'Ajjer Mountains to the west and the Acacus Mountains to the east in Libya .
Infrastructure
The oasis consists of only a few houses with associated palm and vegetable gardens, which are artificially watered by means of wells due to the extremely low rainfall. The place and its surroundings are dominated by numerous military facilities that serve to secure the border with Libya.
traffic
Tin Alkoum is located on national road 3 , which connects Djanet with the closest Libyan municipal capital Ghat . The section between Djanet and Tin Alkoum is paved. However, the crossing over the border with Libya, which is about 6 km to the north, has been closed since the outbreak of civil war in Libya .
Early history
To the south-west of the village there are around 800 round graves, mostly lined up close together, as evidence of Neolithic settlement.
