The province of Djanet ( Arabic ولاية جانت, DMG Wilāyat Ǧānat , tamazight ⵊⴰⵏⴻⵜ) is a province ( wilaya ) in southeastern Algeria .

The province, which was created in December 2019, is located in the Sahara , borders Libya to the east and Niger to the south , and covers an area of ​​86,185 km².

Until now, the province of Djanet was part of the now smaller province of Illizi .

With 17,618 inhabitants (Statistics 2008) it is extremely sparsely populated, the population density is therefore only around 0.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Many of the residents are Tuareg .

The provincial capital is the small oasis town of Djanet .
