Muaskar (also mouaskar or mascara ; Arabic ولاية معسكر, DMG Wilāyat Muʿaskar , tamazight ⴰⴳⴻⵣⴷⵓ ⵏ ⵎⵄⴻⵙⴽⴻⵔ Agezdu n Mɛesker ) is a province ( wilaya ) in northwest Algeria with about 732,000 inhabitants. Its capital is the Muaskar of the same name , in German "Heereslager", also known as Mascara in French times.
The province is located in the Atlas Mountains and covers an area of 5699 km².
Tobacco, olive oil, wool and wine were and are still partly grown today.
