Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, is a titular Roman Catholic diocese .
On July 29, 1853, the Vicariate Apostolic Upper Michigan was established from the territory of the Archdiocese of Detroit , which was elevated to a diocese on January 9, 1857 and thus received the name Sault Sainte Marie. Changed to Sault Sainte Marie-Marquette on October 23, 1865, it became the Marquette diocese on January 3, 1937 .
1996 Sault Sainte Marie was titular in Michigan .
