Tivoli is located in the Schwabing-Freimann district on the left bank of the Isar between the Lehel and the Tucherpark in a quadrangle made up of Ifflandstraße, Tivolistraße, Hirschauer Straße and Am Tucherpark.
history
The district is named after the restaurant Zum Tivoli , which was built here in 1830 from the summer residence of a Munich citizen. At that time, the area was in the southeast corner of the city of Schwabing , with which it was incorporated in 1890. The name Tivoli refers to the Italian city of Tivoli near Rome and was used as a name for numerous amusement parks in the 19th century . The restaurant existed until 1923 and was demolished in 1924.

The Tivolistraße, the Tivoli Bridge , the Tivoli Art Mill , which formerly stood in the area of the adjacent Tucher Park to the north, and the Tivoli power station also take their names from the quarter .
