Tlalocohyla is a genus of the tree frog family(Hylidae). It is named after the Aztec deity Tlaloc .

description

The genus Tlalocohyla was separated from the genus Hyla in 2005 after molecular biological studies . It is mainly distinguished from other genera by various genetic differentiations. So far, no morphological synapomorphism of the taxon is known.

Occurrence

The area in which the genus occurs includes the tropical lowlands from Mexico to Costa Rica .

Systematics

The genus Tlalocohyla was introduced in 2005 by Faivovich et al. first described . The type species is Tlalocohyla smithii , it was originally described in 1902 by George Albert Boulenger as Hyla smithii . The four species of the genus Tlalocohyla previously belonged to the genus Hyla .
