The Hylinae are a subfamily of the tree frogs (Hylidae).
description
The Hylinae are defined by various genetic traits. Only one possible morphological synapomorphism of the taxon is known; the flexor tendon of the fifth finger is reinforced by a second tendon that arises ventrally from the palmaris longus muscle . The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The species of the subfamily Hylinae occur in temperate Eurasia including the Japanese islands as well as the extreme north of Africa and in North and South America including the West Indies .
Systematics
The Hylinae were first described by Rafinesque in 1815 . After a revision by Faivovich et al. from 2005 40 genera. These were later divided into several subfamilies, so that the Hylinae themselves only comprise less than half of the genera.
Genera
A total of 18 genera remain in the subfamily. The status of the subfamilies and genera remains under discussion.
