Ecnomiohyla is a genus of the tree frog family(Hylidae). It occurs in Central America and the adjacent areas in North and South America .
description
The genus Ecnomiohyla was separated from the genus Hyla in 2005 after molecular biological studies . It is mainly distinguished from other genera by various genetic differentiations. So far, no morphological synapomorphism of the taxon is known.
Occurrence
The area in which the genus occurs extends from southern Mexico through Central America to Colombia. The habitat is wooded, moist highlands.
Systematics
The genus Ecnomiohyla was created in 2005 by Faivovich et al. first described . The type species is Ecnomiohyla miliaria , it was originally described as Hypsiboas miliarius by Edward Drinker Cope in 1886.
The ten species placed in the genus Ecnomiohyla in 2005 previously belonged to the genus Hyla . Four more species were later described in this genus, and two were placed in other genera. There are a total of 12 species in this genus.

For Ecnomiohyla miotympanum (Cope, 1863) the genus Rheohyla was established, in which it is now the only species. Ecnomiohyla tuberculosa (Boulenger, 1882) was transferred to the genus Tepuihyla .
