Tobia Scarpa (born January 1, 1935 in Venice ) is an Italian architect and designer . He is known for his lights, such as the Foglio wall light.

Life

Tobia Scarpa was born the son of the famous architect Carlo Scarpa . He studied architecture and design at the University of Venice . He has been designing products such as lights, furniture and other objects since 1957. He has been working closely with his wife Afra Scarpa since 1960 . Important products that were created during this period are the “Bastiano” sofa, the “Soriana” armchair and lights by Achille Castiglioni for “Flos”.

Works

In addition to lighting objects and furniture, Tobia and Afra Scarpa designed interiors and industrial buildings. Her designs for the prototype of the sales rooms and for a factory building for the Benetton Group are well known . The Vetri a "occhi" series , which Tobia Scarpa designed for Venini / Murano in 1960/61, is one of the masterpieces of 20th century Venetian glass art.

Tobia Scarpa's works are exhibited in major museums and can be seen at major design exhibitions.
