Tobias Künkler

Tobias Künkler (* 1979 ) is a German educational scientist and sociologist . He works as a professor for interdisciplinary basics of social work at the CVJM University in Kassel.

His topics and research focus are:

  • Basic theoretical questions and problems in the intersection of social work and general pedagogy (esp. learning theories, anthropology / subject theories)
  • empirical sociology of religion (especially youth, ways of life, deconversion)
  • Transformation and social innovation in the social and church sector

Life

After graduating from the Goetheschule in Wetzlar, he completed his community service at the Caritas Association in Stuttgart, department for disabled people. From 1999 to 2004 he studied sociology, pedagogy and philosophy (graduation Magister Artium) at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.

From 2004 to 2010 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Bremen in Faculty 12: Educational and Educational Sciences, Work area: Historical-systematic and comparative educational research. There he was awarded a doctorate in 2011 with a basic theoretical thesis on relational learning ('Learning and relationality. Basic theoretical contributions to an educational theory of learning.') phil. PhD.

From 2010 to 2015 he worked as head of studies of the interdisciplinary study program "Social Transformation", the BA program "Social Work" and lecturer for social pedagogical basics and sociology at the Marburg Education and Study Center. Tobias Künkler has been working as a professor for general education and social work at the CVJM University in Kassel since 2015. Together with Tobias Faix , he heads the empirica research institute and the master’s program "Transformation Studies: Public Theology & Social Work".
