Tobias Faix

Tobias Faix (* 1969 ) is a German Protestant theologian and non-fiction author . He is professor for practical theology at the YMCA University in Kassel with a focus on community education , intercultural and empirical theology. He is also an associate professor at the State University of South Africa .

Life

Faix studied theology at the Biblical-Theological Academy in Wiedenest and the Academy for World Mission Korntal, a partner institute of the Christian Columbia International University (South Carolina, USA), and did his doctorate in empirical missiology at the University of South Africa . From 1997 to 2005 he was youth pastor and pastor of the free "Evangelical Community Eben Ezer eV" in St. Georgen in the Black Forest . From 2005 to 2015 he taught community education and missiology at the Marburg Education and Study Center , where he headed the Marburg Transformation Studies . Since 2013 he has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Mission Studies, Church History and Christian Spirituality at the University of South Africa. Since September 2015 he has been professor for practical theology with a focus on community education, intercultural and empirical theology at the YMCA University in Kassel. There he also heads the empirica research institute for youth, culture and religion.

Public work

In 2007 he founded the research institute empirica for youth, culture and religion, whose research focus is on empirical youth research and the correlation between life and religion . Together with Pastor Stefan Pahl, Faix founded the "Christian Mentoring Network", of which he heads the board. Faix is ​​also Vice Chairman of the Society for Education and Research in Europe (GBFE). Faix is ​​actively involved in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district synod and sits as a permanent guest in the EKD's Chamber for Social Order.

Transformation studies

Faix became known in Germany through the founding of the Transformation Studies, an interdisciplinary master’s degree that promotes research on current change processes in society, theology and the church in order to enable specialists and managers to actively and creatively shape change processes and to stimulate social innovation. The master's degree "Transformation Studies: Public Theology & Social Work" is affiliated with the YMCA University in Kassel and aims to help churches and congregations to become socially relevant and profile-oriented in times of the Christian break with tradition. The academic series “Transformation Studies”, initiated by Faix and co-sponsored by Johannes Reimer , now comprises nine volumes and is currently being translated into several languages ​​(Portuguese, English, Russian and Chinese).

Private

Faix is ​​married and lives with his family in Marburg . His father is the theologian Wilhelm Faix .
