Toby Stevenson

Toby Stevenson (born November 19, 1976 in Odessa , Texas ) is a former American pole vaulter .

The Stanford University student became known, among other things, for always jumping with a jumping helmet. Due to outstanding performance, he was first noticed at university championships and in 2002 at the US championships, where he was fourth with 5.74 m. In 2003 in Santo Domingo he became the Pan American champion.

2004 was his most successful year. At the US championships, he qualified second for the Olympic Games in Athens . In the run-up to the Olympics, he jumped 6.00 m for the first time and was thus better than the American champion Timothy Mack when he drove to Athens. In Athens he finally won the silver medal with 5.90 m behind Timothy Mack, who became Olympic champion with 5.95 m.

The following year he qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki , but did not appear due to an injury. At the 2009 World Cup in Berlin, he was eliminated in qualification.

Toby Stevenson is 1.86 m tall and weighed 79 kg during his playing days.
