Tocuyito is a city south of Valencia in the state of Carabobo in northern Venezuela .

It is the capital of the district ( Municipio ) Libertador. The city has highways connecting Valencia with the LLanos and with Barquisimeto . The prison of Tocuyito located nearby.

history

The city was founded in 1547 by Juan de Villegas. Not far from Tocuyito, the Battle of Carabobo took place in 1821 , which was very important for Venezuela's independence.

President Antonio Guzmán Blanco declared Tocuyito the capital of the state of Carabobo in 1881, but the village then remained the capital for only five months. On September 14, 1899, the forces of the government of Ignacio Andrade were defeated there by the forces of the Revolución Liberal Restauradora led by Cipriano Castro.

The Autopista Regional del Centro motorway between Valencia and Campo Carabobo is the main link between Tocuyito and other regions. There is also the so-called carretera vieja between Guasima and Valencia.
