Lake Togo is a 64 km² large lagoon in the south of the African state Togo in the Maritime region on the Atlantic Ocean west of the city of Aného .
The outskirts of the state capital Lomé are less than ten kilometers from the western edge of the lake with Agbodrafo , the former Portuguese slave trade town of Porto Seguro . Togoville , Badougbe and Agbantokopé , where the outflow from the lagoon begins and reaches the Atlantic in Aného, lie on the lake as larger towns .
The lake is fished by locals for carp , sole , turbot and others. City dwellers spend their free time there or practice water sports.
Gustav Nachtigal , who was appointed Reich Commissioner for Togo and Cameroon , signed a contract on July 5, 1884 in Togoville to secure German claims.
