Tokyo Girls - What if ...? ( Japanese 東京 タ ラ レ バ 娘 , Tōkyō Tarareba Musume ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Akiko Higashimura , which was published in Japan from 2014 to 2017. In 2017 it was adapted as a drama for Japanese television. The work can be classified into the genres of comedy , drama and romanticism.

On her 33rd birthday, Rinko realizes that she is still not married and doesn't even have a boyfriend. Together with her friends Kaori, also 33, and Koyuki, she often meets in Koyuki's father's bar. There, the still single women decide to have found a man and married in six years by the time the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 are due to take place. And Rinko immediately has an appointment with a young director whom she had turned down 10 years earlier. Now she resolves not to be so picky anymore, and the director also turns out to be a good role. But he is actually in love with Rinko's younger assistant and just wanted to ask for her support. Completely dejected, she and her friends set out again to find a friend.

The series first appeared in individual chapters in the Kodansha publishing house's Kiss magazine . The start was in March 2017, the last part appeared in April 2017. The series was later published in nine anthologies. These each sold over 135,000 times. The 8th volume reached over 250,000 copies. In 2016 Tokyo Girls was nominated for the Kōdansha Manga Prize .

A German translation of Egmont Manga has been published in three volumes since May 2019 . Kodansha itself publishes an English version. This was nominated for the Eisner Award in 2019 .

Television series

In 2017, a Dorama series was produced for Japanese television. The 10 episodes were broadcast on Nippon TV from January 18 to March 22, 2017 .
