Tomàs Fàbregas

Tomàs Fàbregas Valls (born April 29, 1904 in Sant Cugat de Vallès , Catalonia , † September 6, 1969 in Mexico City , Mexico ) was a Spanish football player , football coach and politician .

career

Fàbregas began his football career at his home club Sant Cugat Sport Futbol Club . He also played for CE Sabadell and RCD Espanyol . During his time as an active athlete, he went into politics in 1930 and vehemently advocated Catalan self-determination . After the Catalonia offensive of 1938, Fàbregas first went to France and the following year to Mexico, where he spent the rest of his life. There he trained the Club Deportivo Irapuato , the Club Deportivo Morelia and the Deportivo Toluca FC . He led Toluca in 1953 to win the championship in the Segunda División , which was still second-rate at the time , which promoted the club to the top division , to which the Diablos Rojos have belonged ever since. With their ten championship titles so far , the “Red Devils” have developed into one of the most successful teams in Mexican club football .
