Thomas Matthew "Tom" Biss (born January 20, 1993 in Hastings ) is a New Zealand football player .

Career

Biss attended St John's College in his native Hastings and was part of the training squad of New Zealand's U-15 selection during this time. From 2005 he was also promoted in the newly founded Hawke's Bay United Football Academy under the direction of Jonathan Gould . In November 2010, Biss was a guest player with the Lower Hutt City AFC's U-19s when the team reached the final of the national youth championship. At the turn of the year 2010/2011 he played under Gould for the reserve team of Wellington Phoenix in the ASB Challenge Series, a series of test matches against the participants of the New Zealand national championship. In January 2011, the midfielder played for Hawke's Bay United for the first time in the New Zealand Football Championship , but missed with the club as well as in the following season as fifth in the table to participate in the final round. After the end of the 2011/12 season he joined in April 2012 for a short time after Western Australia to Armadale SC and scored three goals for the club in Western Australia Premier League . Biss was also active at the local level during this time, in 2011 he played for Lower Hutt City in the Central Premier League , in mid-2012 he temporarily led the league rivals Maycenvale United as captain . Biss earns his living as an employee at a car dealer.

In June 2012, Biss became one of the first nine players selected for the Phoenix Football School of Excellence . The aim of the project is to introduce young New Zealand players to the professional team of Wellington Phoenix. As part of this project, Biss trains regularly with the A-League team from Wellington and also took part in an India tour in August 2012. In the fight for two professional contracts, however, he was left behind against Louis Fenton and Tyler Boyd . When seven Wellington Phoenix players were on international tour for the away game against Melbourne Heart on the 2nd match day of the 2012/13 season , Biss moved into the squad and was in the starting line-up after Cameron Lindsay fell ill for a short time . Although Wellington started with a total of four A-League debutants on the starting line-up, they won a point with a 1-1 draw; Biss was in action for 80 minutes.

Together with other players from the School of Excellence , Biss will compete for the cooperation team Team Wellington in the New Zealand championship in the 2012/13 season .
