Heinrich Otto Schröder

Heinrich Otto Schröder (born April 8, 1906 in Friedberg (Hesse) , † July 19, 1987 in Sankt Augustin ) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Heinrich Otto Schröder studied Classical Philology at the University of Giessen (especially with Karl Kalbfleisch ) and was awarded a doctorate on November 8, 1934. phil. PhD . In his dissertation he collected and commented on fragments of the Timaeus commentary by Galen ; the work was published as a critical edition with a contribution by Paul Kahle .

Schröder worked in Giessen as an assistant from the winter semester 1930/31. He held Greek style exercises and especially supported the prospective students. He dedicated his research work to Greek doctors. On January 25, 1939 , he completed his habilitation with a text on the Alethes Logos des Kelsos . After his habilitation, he was appointed senior assistant.

After military service and imprisonment in World War II , Schröder went to school and initially lived in Menden / Sauerland, since the University of Giessen was dissolved. In 1954 he became senior director of studies at the Stiftisches Gymnasium in Düren , then at the Beethovengymnasium in Bonn. From 1966 Schröder worked part-time as an honorary professor at the University of Cologne .

Schröder dealt all his life with Greek literature, especially with the ancient history of religion and medicine. In 1986 he brought out an annotated translation of Aelius Aristides ' sacred speeches . He also wrote articles for the Realencyclopadie of classical antiquity and for the Reallexikon für antiquity and Christianity .
