Tom Lyle
Thomas "Tom" Lyle (born November 2, 1953 in Jacksonville , Florida , † November 19, 2019 ) was an American comic artist and author.
Life and work
Lyle began working as a full-time comic book artist in the 1980s. His first major success started in 1989 with the drawings for the science fiction series Starman , written by Roger Stern , which was published by DC Comics until 1991 .
Between 1991 and 1993, Lyle drew a total of three mini-series that focused on solo adventures by Robin , the teenage assistant to the superhero character Batman . Author of these three miniseries - Robin (five issues), Robin II: Joker's Wild (four issues), Robin III: Cry of the Huntress (six issues) - was the author Chuck Dixon , with whom Lyle dated 1991-1992 for nine other Batman Comics came together ( Detective Comics # 644-649 and Batman # 464-466).
Together with the author Mark Waid , Lyle worked for almost two years from 1991 to 1992 on the fantasy comic The Comet , published by Impac Comics (a former DC imprint) , for which Lyle also worked as a co-author for the first time.
In the mid-1990s, Lyle moved to Marvel Comics , where he and Howard Mackie took over the popular Spider-Man series , one of the most commercially successful series in Marvel's publishing program. Together with the author John Ostrander , Lyle designed several issues of the series The Punisher and - here acting as sole author for the first time - several issues of the title Warlock .
Lyle most recently worked on the comic book Chickasaw Adventures and taught art drawing classes at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
