Tom Mandrake (* 1956 ) is an American comic artist .

Life and work

After graduating from Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art , where he earned a degree in art design , Mandrake began working as a comic book artist in the 1980s.

Since then he has mainly worked for publishers Marvel Comics , DC Comics , Image Comics and Dark Horse Comics .

For DC he drew series such as Batman , Sgt. Rock , The Specter , Swamp Thing , Wonder Woman , Firestorm , Hawkworld , Martian Manhunter and Justice League , as well as the miniseries The Kents . For Marvel he designed several issues of the series Weapon X , Punisher , Dr. Strange and The Precinct , as well as the miniseries The Hulk Unchained . Finally, for Image he drew the Creeps series he created himself . For the small publisher First Comics, he illustrated a comic adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet and the series Grimjack . Mandrake has also illustrated the comic novels The Forst King: The Woodlarks Shadow and Pat Novak Fore Hire . Frequent artistic partners of Mandrake are the author John Ostrander , as well as his own wife, the author Jan Duursema.

Aside from the comic industry, Mandrake worked as art director for the award-winning independent film Zombie Prom .
