Tom Monaghan

Thomas Stephen "Tom" Monaghan (born March 25, 1937 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American entrepreneur.

After retiring from the Marines , Tom Monaghan founded DomiNick's Pizza in 1960, which was renamed Domino’s in 1965 . In 1998 he sold the company. From 1983 to 1992 he was the owner of the Detroit Tigers , a major league - baseball teams of the American League .

In 1983 he founded the "Ave Maria Foundation" and supported numerous projects of the Roman Catholic Church in the USA, particularly in the Catholic education system. In 1987 he founded Legatus, an association that “testifies to the faith in business, professional and personal life”.

In 2003 he founded Ave Maria University near Naples (Florida) . The campus, which he moved into in 2007, is located in the newly founded city of Ave Maria , the first Catholic city to be founded in the United States. Ave Maria University is the first Catholic university to be established in the United States since 1966. The university has a strict Roman Catholic code of honor. The university is planned for around 6,000 students (2020).

He has been married to Marjorie Zybach since 1962; the marriage resulted in four daughters.
