Ave Maria is a planned university city in the US state of Florida . It is currently in the construction phase.
The site of the planned city is about 30 km away from Naples in Collier County . According to initial estimates of a population of 8,000 people (5,000 students and 3,000 other residents), the city is now designed for a capacity of approx. 20,000–22,500 residents.
The initiator, pizza multimillionaire Tom Monaghan , had the dream of " founding the first important Catholic university in the USA in 40 years". The city of the same name, Ave Maria, has been built around this university, the Ave Maria University .
