Tom Moon

Tom Moon (* 3. November 1960 ) is an American jazz - Tenor saxophonist , composer and author .

Live and act

Moon studied music at the University of Miami and performed as a saxophonist in the Miami area. For a year he was a member of the Maynard Ferguson Big Band . In addition, he increasingly began to write about music, initially for several years for the Miami Herald . He moved to Philadelphia in 1988 and was a permanent employee of the Philadelphia Inquirer . In addition, he worked from 1996 for the program All Things Considered of National Public Radio . Moon has received two ASCAP- Deems Taylor Music Journalism Awards. At the same time he pursued a career as a musician and composer; he played in Latin bands and toured with a rock band, also worked on cruise ships and in theater bands. In 2011 he recorded his debut album Into the Ojalá (Frosty Cordial Records) with his band, the Moon Hotel Lounge Project, with his own compositions.

Moon was best known as a writer and critic for his book 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die (Workman Publishing, 2008). He also wrote articles on jazz and popular music, among others. a. for Rolling Stone , GQ, Blender, Spin and Vibe magazines .
