Thomas John "Tom" Plant (born November 6, 1957 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is a former American speed skater .
Plant first appeared in international competitions in 1977. In 1978 he finished 19th in the small four-way battle at the Junior World Championships . He finished the Sprint World Championships in 1979 in 10. The following year , Plant won the bronze medal, having finished first in the first run over 500 meters and third in the second run over 1000 meters. He qualified for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , where he finished 17th over 1500 meters. In the subsequent all-around world championship he reached rank 21.
After retiring from his active career, Plant moved to Las Vegas and worked in the investment industry .
