Tom Schaar (born September 14, 1999 in Malibu , California ) is an American skateboarder .

Life

Schaar started exercising at the age of four; the family owned a small vert ramp in the garden. In October 2011, he was only the eighth and youngest driver in the world at the MegaRamp at Woodward West Action Sports Camp in Tehachapi, California. He managed a so-called 900 , i.e. a two-and-a-half turn around the body's longitudinal axis. On March 30, 2012, he was the first skateboarder ever to have a 1080 on the same course. He only needed five attempts and achieved another 900 while warming up in preparation.

A few weeks later, on April 30, 2012, Schaar won the competition on the Mini-MegaRamp at the X-Games Asia in Shanghai , after he had managed another 1080, for which he received 94.00 points from the judges. He relegated Bob Burnquist and Ronaldo Gomes to their places and is the youngest X Games gold medalist to date. As a result, he received an invitation to the X-Games XVIII, which took place in Los Angeles that summer . In the big air competition there on June 29, 2012, despite a successful 900, he only made eighth place.

2013 was also an extremely successful year for Schaar. In June he won the bronze medal in the Skateboard Big Air at the first X-Games in Munich and just under a month later he even took second place in the same competition at the "original" X-Games XIX in Los Angeles.
