Thomas James "Tom" Soares (born July 10, 1986 in Reading ) is an English football player . The midfielder has been under contract with Stoke City since 2008 . His brother Louie is also a footballer and currently plays for Aldershot Town and for the Barbados national football team.

Soares went through the entire Crystal Palace football school and quickly became a regular player. However, due to the lack of staff, he often had to switch to the position of the winger. Since the position was not right for him, he quickly came under criticism from Palace fans.

Many England football coaches see Soares as a great talent, which is why he was appointed to the U-21s of the England national team. Under Neil Warnock, the new coach of Crystal Palace, he matured into one of the regular players in the three-man midfield . His speed and amazing shooting technique ensured that he was named the key player of the 2007/08 season by the fans.

Warnock announced that Soares had moved to the Premier League Stoke City early in the season .
