Tom Wood's photographic work is characterized by a direct, open view of his living environment. His often long-term projects revolve around people's everyday lives, classic portraits, situations on the street and at home, and in recent years also landscapes. Wood's style can be described as social documentary, but does not follow a fixed concept. His pictures are created spontaneously and are composed unconventionally. In the series you can see an honest and humorous attitude on the part of the photographer, which, despite all the confrontation, never loses respect for his counterpart. In recent years he has increasingly combined recordings of people from his personal environment with those from other contexts.

Wood works with a 35 mm format camera, but also used medium and large format cameras for portraits. Until the end of the 1980s, he mostly photographed on black and white negative film, then on color negative film. For a few years now, he has also devoted himself more to the landscape, recording it with a panorama camera. He presents his photographs, which are listed with title, place and year, in exhibitions and photo books, always combining old and new images from the archive. Tom Wood is bystander in the standard works . A History of Street Photography by Colin Westerbeck and Joel Meyerowitz (2nd ed. Boston 2001) and The Photobook. A History - Volume 2 represented by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger (London 2006).

Quotes

"I think of a photograph as a receiver of sensation. Sensations are intangible, I try to organize them through the act of photography." Tom Wood
